![]() I wanted to have as much input as possible, because, well, it was my book, after all, and I knew it better than anyone, right? I wanted it to make some noise, to drown out the other novels around it. I wanted it to whet a reader’s curiosity. I wanted mine to reflect the novel I wrote, and to be bold, imaginative, and attention-grabbing. “But if you had to choose one,” he asked, “which one would it be?”Īll writers-and I am no exception-have fairly strong ideas about the design of their covers. I saw each iteration of his cover, which arrived by FedEx every couple of days. Mostly, though, he talked about his novel’s cover, which he never went anywhere without, as if it were some kind of talisman. ![]() Every night at dinner, he sat down beside me and told me how many pages he’d rewritten that day, how his editorial process was going, and how much buzz he was already getting. ![]() Many years ago, while a guest at a writing colony, I met an excitable writer who was worried about his debut novel. ![]() ![]() While I liked the idea of Caitlyn and Raphael, I had a hard time connecting with them and felt there romance wasn't believable, even for a paranormal story.īasically, I just don't think this one was for me. ![]() The plot line is very clever and I enjoyed the ghostly mysteries, but then the storyline moved on to religion and the treasure of The Knights Templar.which isn't something I'm to familiar with and even though I did find it somewhat interesting, I didn't find it captivating. But I found it a bit to formal and dry and it didn't quite have that desired punch to keep me engaged. Lisa Cach is a very skilled writer and the dedication to her historical details was very impressive. Seeing her character develop over a trilogy gives me high hopes! Loulie is such a loveable character, and I was always cheering for her. ![]() However, when she’s sent off on a quest to find the most magical relic of them all, her world and what she think she knows begins to unravel. She doesn’t think too much as to how these relics got their powers, but she knows she can make a good coin off of them. Our first heroine is Loulie Al-Nazari, who has another identity as the mysterious Midnight Merchant, a shadowy figure who sells magical relics to humans. I am really looking forward to the next two books in the series to find out what they’re up to! It felt incredibly character-driven, and I really found myself quite attached to our four heroes. Ultimately what I loved most about this book was the characters. As the first installment of a debut trilogy, I found it difficult to put the book down because I always wanted to know what happened next! This is a new-adult fantasy with a really fun spin on a classic One Thousand and One Nights tale. Hello and welcome to the latest Ariel’s Arc review! Today I’m going to talk about a highly anticipated read, The Stardust Thief by Chelsea Abdullah. ![]() ![]() ![]() That’s one of the things I’ve really grown to like about Mariko Tamaki’s books her characters feel like real teenagers and nothing about the way they act seems forced or overdramatic. This graphic novel didn’t have a whole lot of plot to it, but there was something about it that just felt very real to me. When she starts observing the teenage drama between a boy who works at the local gas station and his pregnant girlfriend, Rose gets a first-hand look at the pain of growing up and the alienation the pregnant girl goes through as a young woman with a ‘reputation’ and a disingenuous group of peers.
